In case you were wondering what else was happening on behind the scenes at Microsoft, the firm today revealed that beginning with Microsoft Edge 96, web applications will be allowed to utilize Protocol Handlers.
Installed web apps, also known as PWAs, will be able to access pre-set or custom protocols using this new functionality.
Additionally, web apps that have previously been installed will be able to register with the operating system as protocol handlers and activate when a certain protocol is triggered.
Protocol handlers are available in Edge web applications.

These Protocol Handlers are compatible with Windows, Linux, and Mac, and Microsoft also said that it gave this work to the Chromium open-source project, and that the capability is also available in other Chromium-based browsers.
